The Bersatu leader has dismissed PAS spiritual advisor Hashim Jasin’s claim that PAS is qualified to be the leader of Perikatan Nasional.
Bersatu Supreme Council member Rafiq Abdullah said Hashim is free to express his views. Rafiq said that ultimately it will be up to the PN leadership to decide whether Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin should remain as party leader or whether the PAS leader should be given the position.
“Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but ultimately it is the PN Supreme Council that will decide,” he told FMT. “The decision (on who is suitable to lead PN) lies with the council, which includes PAS chairman (Abdul Hadi Awang), Bersatu chairman and Gerakan chairman (Dominic Lau), as well as the representatives and secretary-general. . »
Hashim has previously said that PAS is qualified to lead PN, rejecting the idea that Muhyiddin should be the prime ministerial candidate.
He cited the party’s large parliamentary representation and strong grassroots engagement as key reasons for his desire to lead the party. His comments follow recent comments by Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who insisted that Muhyiddin is the only candidate for the prime ministerial position in the opposition.
Bersatu Supreme Council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan, meanwhile, told FMT that the PAS leader cannot lead the PN bill in the next general election despite PAS’s power and opposition alliance. Rafiq also said that PAS had already been offered the opportunity to lead the PN, but Hadi rejected the offer.
“We have no problem with anyone leading the PN. “The most important thing is the strength and unity of the PN constituent parties as the next general election approaches,” he said.
On the same day, Lau reiterated Gerakan’s support for Muhyiddin as its running mate for prime minister. He cited Muhyiddin’s experience, commitment and support from all levels of PN as the main reasons.
